Blygger has got me thinking about AI and writing, I kind of want to try making a simple website that works kind of like Zork, except you don't need an explicit story tree. You have a situation. The person can say any number of things about what they want to do and then the right thing advances it.
Doing this with AI would make it a lot more flexible. I was talking to ChatGPT today about it and it thinks I could build a site with a low-rent AI in the background that would cost very little to run each month.
- Tyler Cowen did this with one of his recent books.
- And then of course the Blygfather has done something similar too on Ribbonfarm, with VGR_ZIRP.
So this would be trying to apply the approach to fiction (I'm sure someone else has already done a version of this, but no reason I can't try from scratch, I think?)
I'd like to start with a simple story, maybe only a few moves, with a silly ending. That way I can get a feel for the form. If I can start to see it, I have a bunch of more involved fiction that the world has never seen. Might be fun to try adapting some of that to a sort of interactive fiction format?
It's an idea.
I don't actually think this is something that the public really wants. But I think I might learn something by building it? Straightforward writing doesn't have a lot of runway left, I don't think. Some people will always do it, but there's going to be fewer and fewer of those seats.
